The faster Elevation Church grows, the harder it is to find staff members. We have made a conscious decision to “hire leaders firstâ€? in this season.Â
We’ve ended the search for our new Family Pastor and found a guy that we believe will not only take us to the next level but revolutionize family ministry. Phillip McCart will be joining our team as a directional staff member. Despite a strong love for Notre Dame, we’re excited to bring in a results focused high level leader.Â
He is a regular blogger which you can check out here. Phillip will be phasing into his role and be here full time by the first of the year.Â

Well, we have a winner. We had our first annual KFC Chicken Bowl Challenge. The staff men of Elevation decided to take the smack talk to the playing field. And that playing field was none other than the local KFC.Â
Here is a brief play-by-play of the afternoon’s events. We ordered 9 chicken bowls, we had a 2 minute cooling and mixing period, and 1:19 seconds later we had a winner. The tape is still being reviewed but at this point the winner is Larry Brey (pictured cheesily below).Â
The secondary team competition was a landslide victory for the core team boys, who annihilated the worship team and the creative suite. The most disappointing performance went to the self-proclaimed king of the chicken bowl, Mack Brock.Â
“It was quite an eventâ€?, said the chicken-bowl challenge chair Wade Joye. A native of Columbia, SC, Joye was just bites away from not actually completing his bowl, a crime punishable by having to walk back to the office. But overall, Joye was excited with the turnout.Â
As for when the next challenge will take place, no date has been secured. Chris Brown has requested the challenge be quarterly, with the Super-Chicken Bowl Challenge taking place in Kentucky. We’ll have to let the church Chicken Bowl Challenge committee rule on this one. Â
Overall, it was a great afternoon, it took less than a normal lunch hour, and has re-charged the smack talk in the office.Â

We’ve never done this before but what do we have to lose? The worst case scenario is we have to say no. And if we aren’t able to say no at this point as a church, we have other problems. So here is the deal… we have some job openings at Elevation. And here is what I want you to do… check out the brief job descriptions below and see if they might fit you and/or a friend and send me a resume. Â
There are a few rules. You can’t get mad if you don’t get a job or even a phone call because as I am hopeful to get some talented applicants, this is just an experiment. You also must only send me a resume if you think that the person will fit at Elevation. A person will fit if they are driven, intense, sacrificial, accountable, results focused, and they have high capacity. Experience in the role is not a prerequisite. We are looking for leaders. And finally, don’t send me a resume with typos. Â So here are the available positions:
- Producer- High-level leader with a balance of creativity and technical skills needed to oversee the production of our Sunday morning worship experience. This role will oversee the programming and execution of the worship experience and also manage the volunteer teams necessary for the set-up, tear-down and technical roles associated with the production. Each of our campuses will have its own Producer and this role reports to the Creative Pastor.
- Children’s Director- This role needs to be able to lead the volunteers needed to pull off Sunday morning in a portable environment. They will also need to be passionate about children’s ministry, organized, have good communication skills (verbal and written), and have a working knowledge of the technology needed for the Ekidz worship experiences. Children’s Directors at each of our campuses will work together to develop systems for success and serve under the Family Pastor.
- Guest Service Coordinator- Again we are looking for a leader who can identify, train, and develop volunteers serving in the area of guest services for the Sunday morning worship experience. Guest services include ushers, greeters, parkers, the first impressions team, and will be over follow-up with first time guests. We have a Guest Service Coordinator at each of our campuses and are hopeful that this role can potentially develop into campus directors in the future. This role must be an organized, relational, systems minded person that can police the culture of Elevation Church.
- Video Coordinator- Honestly, we are looking for a video geek that can plan (storyboard), shoot and edit video. The role will be technical and creative. The expectation will be to take a creative concept and bring it to life for use during Sunday morning worship experiences. This role will also help oversee image magnification and video equipment on Sunday mornings. This position will report to the Communications Director in the Creative department and work in conjunction with our Motion Graphics Editor and Producers.
- Project Manager- This person will be a great communicator and meticulous with details. They absolutely need to be deadline-driven and willing to hold others to them. We are looking for someone who is organized, creative, and knows how to manage tasks and projects. This role will report to the Creative Pastor and will help oversee and mange the creative process for all print material, video elements, graphics and web design of Elevation Church.
So there it is, if you are interested; please send all resumes to our Office Manager at syates@elevationchurch.org. The supervisors will review all resumes and send formal applications as a second step in the process. Any additional information in your e-mails will be helpful. Remember, if you don’t get a follow-up e-mail with an application, no hard feelings but please send us your info if you are interested. Thanks. Â

This Sunday to kick off our capital campaign, Dominate, we decided to turn the normal perception of a church raising money on it’s head. We did a reverse offering. And no that doesn’t mean that we took up the offering before the service, we gave it all away.
Truly feeling inspired by God, we gave away the equivalent of the average weekly offering for the year ($40,000)… and then we didn’t take up the regular offering.
The money was distributed in envelopes to everyone that attended a service in denomination amounts of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 dollar bills. There was also 1000 dollars given away in each of our 5 worship experiences. Along with the cash, there was a card in the envelope with the rules:
·        You can’t spend the money on yourself
·        You can’t give it back to the church
·        You have to tell us what you did with the cash here
We’re calling it the Bless Back Project and the goal is simple: It’s not about the church wanting your money. God has blessed us to be a blessing to others. This ain’t your grandma’s capital campaign. Regardless of what amount of money our people get, we are praying that God would give everyone an opportunity to be a blessing for someone else.
This is just the beginning of creating a culture of generosity at Elevation Church. Dominate is about what we want for people, not from people. There is no building project or strategy that we are giving to, but there is a vision.
A capital campaign without a project is the way we have always done things around here. Eight families committed to move to plant the church before we even knew the city. Now it’s time to do it again and raise the resources necessary to continue to reach people far from God so they can be filled with life in Christ. Whether that’s a building, meeting in 10 high schools, or retro-fitting 3 warehouses remains to be seen.
